๐จ๐ผโ๐ป 08 Donโt Make Me Think
Tech startup lead generation tip number 8
Donโt make me think is a fantastic book by Steve Krug about website usability and user experience.
It was originally written way back in the year 2000, but its common sense approach to website user experience is still very relevant today.
The main theme of the book is, as the title suggests, is to make the whole website navigation and overall user experience highly intuitive.
When someone is browsing your website, there shouldnโt be any copywriting, infographics or links that they donโt immediately understand.
Tech company websites often fall into the trap poorly explaining themselves by being too technical or too wordy or perhaps trying to be too clever.
Websites should be self-explanatory and to the point.
The purpose, benefits and target audience of the tech should be clear and obvious.
There are many examples from the book that I could tell you, but Iโll give you one that I see a lot with tech companies, and that is how to signpost your product or solutions pages.
Letโs say you want to have a link to your product page.
If I see a link on a website navigation called โXcon 3000โ, Iโve no idea what that means, so Iโm not going to click on it.
Instead, if you change that to โOur B2B Solutionโ, I immediately understand where that link will take me, and is therefore much more enticing.
Creating a website with excellent, well thought out user experience is vital for generating leads.
