10x Your SaaS Leads: Ads Not Working? Try This

This week, I’m going to outline an ads strategy to get your funnel flowing with leads.

Rethink How You Use Ads

“I’ve tried ads. They don’t work for us”

I hear this a lot. This is a naive attitude, as there are so many factors that go into a successful ad campaign.

The #1 reason I see for unsuccessful SaaS ad campaigns is that they are pointing ads to the bottom of the funnel.

I don’t want to book a demo, have a free trial or jump on a sales call with you if I’ve never heard of you before.

Most of your prospects need to flow through your marketing funnel before they are ready to buy.

Stop using ads to try to shortcut the funnel. Use ads to get people into the top of your funnel.

Use ads to promote your brand awareness content and lead magnet campaigns such as videos, blogs, webinars, workshops, eBooks, whitepapers and email newsletters.

People are MUCH more likely to click on these ads as they are educational and helpful, as opposed to sales ads.

Some senior managers may not like this approach, as they want to see every dollar spent measured against an ROI. It’s your job to convince them to believe in the marketing funnel and trust the process.

Push them down the funnel with retargeting ads

Via the Meta Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag, you can create retargeting ads to be seen only by people who have previously visited your website or engaged with your social content.

Here’s an example that we use for our clients at Rocket SaaS

  1. Create a blog article and video content teaching people how to solve a problem
  2. Promote them both with ads
  3. Create an eBook that dives deeper into the problem
  4. Use retargeting ads to promote this eBook only to people who read the blog article from step 1
  5. Create a case study article and video, explaining how our client overcame this problem
  6. Use retargeting ads to promote this article only to people who downloaded the eBook landing page
  7. Create a final bottom-of-funnel retargeting ad for them to book a demo
